DESCRIPTION:
APW - Illinois, Bunn, 17J, 18S, gold-filled HC recase with attractive engraving detail including a small lakeside home scene to rear, white enamel DS Gothic numeral dial, SW-LS, sunburst pattern nickel damascene, s#2248205. This hunting case variant of the 17 jewel 18 size Bunn with sunburst damascene is notably rare. At the time Bill Meggers' Illinois book was written the production of this variant was estimated at 200 made corresponding to a single production run listed in the factory records between serial numbers 2248201 to 2248400, but more recent study has found that observed examples have all fallen within the early portion of the production run suggesting the possibility that half or more of this run may not have been finished and that the actual production may in fact be in the range of 100 or less made. An ongoing discussion thread on the NAWCC Message Board is tracking these examples, and lists ten known examples all of which have serial numbers within the first 80 watches of the run and lists no known examples with serial numbers beyond the first 80 watches of the run. From the collection of Charlie Winters.
